Adrian Durham has slammed Mikel Arteta for snubbing Mesut Ozil at Arsenal.
The Gunners midfielder, who earns £350,000-a-week, has not played since March and is yet to make a matchday squad this season.
Despite his Arsenal exile, Ozil is adamant he will see out his contract, which runs until next summer.
In the new book, ‘Arsene Wenger: My Life In Red And White’, the former Gunners boss describes Ozil as a player who ‘needs to be constantly encouraged and feel close to his coach and have a relationship of trust with him’.
Reading out an extract from Wenger’s book, talkSPORT host Durham said: “Ozil is an artist who feels football through all the pores of his skin and his soul.
“He needs to be constantly encouraged and he needs to feel close to his coach and have a relationship of trust with him. Being hard on him doesn’t work.
“Like all artists, he needs to feel supported in his creativity. He has a feel for passing and an exceptional sense of timing when he passes.
“There is something magical and simple about his playing style.
“The Premier League is a train that goes by at 200km an hour, Ozil doesn’t always go at this speed but you’ll always have great affection for his artistry.”
Durham responded to Wenger’s words by accusing current Arsenal boss Arteta of ‘failing to do his job properly’ regarding his decision to axe Ozil.
He told talkSPORT: “So I’m going to put this out there, I don’t necessarily agree with what Arsene Wenger is saying, although I do agree that Mesut Ozil is incredibly talented.

“But by paying a player that much and Mikel Arteta basically just giving up on Mesut Ozil, even though they’re paying him an absolute fortune, Mikel Arteta is failing.
“He’s failing to do his job properly. Arsene Wenger has given him a tool kit whereby he can get the best out of Mesut Ozil, who is clearly a very talented player, I think we’d all agree on that.
“But Mikel Arteta is failing, miserably, when it comes to Mesut Ozil.”
