Jermain Defoe insists Tottenham can win the Premier League title this season.
Spurs lead second-placed Liverpool on goal difference after ten games and have not lost in the league since the opening weekend of the season.
Only Dominic Calvert-Lewin (10) has scored more goals than Tottenham’s Heung-min Son (9), while Harry Kane is leading the way in assists with nine.
And Defoe, who scored 143 goals in 364 appearances for Tottenham in two spells, is confident his former club can lift a first league title since 1961.
He told the Mennie Talks podcast: “Of course they can. It’s not me being biased, I’m just looking at the performances.
“I’m looking at the performances and we have Jose Mourinho. People can say what they want, but we have Mourinho and we are playing the way we are, so anything can happen.
“I see a trophy coming anyway.”
Last month, former Tottenham star and manager Tim Sherwood told talkSPORT Mourinho has ‘brainwashed’ his players into thinking they can win the league title.
He said: “He’s found a way with the group of players he has.
“He’s bought very well, [Sergio] Reguilon has been a good signing at left-back, but [Pierre-Emile] Hojbjerg for me has been the best signing. He fits into the style and just protects the two centre-halves.
“Jose has brainwashed his players to believe they have to work to achieve something – they need to win trophies, this group of players.
“When you play as solid as they do, he’s almost brainwashed them into believing.

“And why wouldn’t you believe in him? He’s won 20 major trophies in his career and you’re winning football matches, so then you start believing that this guy is the real deal, he knows what he’s talking about, and why can’t we win the league?
“When we’ve got players like Son and Kane, who are world class and could probably play in any team in the world, you’ve always got a chance.
“They haven’t played fantastically well this season, but who cares?”
