Harry Maguire nightmare transfers from Manchester United to England with red card after ‘potential leg-breaker’

Nothing much has been going Harry Maguire’s way recently, and that continued with England on Wednesday night.

Following his summer from hell in Greece, the Manchester United star has endured a woeful start to the domestic season, conceding 11 goals in just three Premier League games.

Questions have been raised about the £80million man’s ability by the likes of Patrice Evra and Roy Keane.

And those questions will grow louder after he was sent off in England’s Nations League clash with Denmark.

After dropping him amid the court case in Mykonos, Gareth Southgate restored faith with Maguire despite a host of options in defence, and started the 27-year-old for the Wembley meeting – which is live on talkSPORT.

Maguire escaped with a booking following a late lunge on Yussuf Poulsen, which was met with an audible yelp of pain by the Denmark winger.

Replays showed the tackle was actually quite a lot worse than it first seemed, and Gary Neville even suggested it was a potential leg-breaker.

Speaking on commentary duty for Sky Sports, the former Man United full-back said: “He’s lucky because they’re the ones that break legs.”

But after just 31 minutes, a poor touch led to another bad challenge, and the referee gave Maguire his marching orders.

“It sums up his last four to six weeks, terrible time for him,” Neville added. “I thought he was lucky with the first challenge, that one is just scruffy play.”

Jamie Redknapp added at half-time: “He is having a moment, he is low on confidence, there is a lot going on in his life and we sometimes forget that.”
