Newcastle are reportedly set to be without Jamaal Lascelles for three months after he sustained a knee injury in the win over Bournemouth at the weekend.
According to The Sun, the results of a scan on the knee showed ligament damage that will rule him out of the majority of the busy festive schedule.
Medical staff at St James’ Park will assess Lascalles’ recovery but the report states he is expected to miss two or three months of action at the very least.
The news will come as a massive blow for Steve Bruce following the club’s mini-revival in recent weeks, where they have picked up ten out of 15 points from their last five games.
The 26-year-old has started every Premier League match this campaign, scoring one goal.
Th injury occurred after Callum Wilson’s nudge sent him flying into Newcastle goalkeeper Martin Dubravka in the opening stages of the 2-1 win.
