Jose Mourinho MUST be given time and support to drag Tottenham back to the elite level, according to Simon Jordan.
Mourinho has been in charge of Spurs for 18 months and has come in for criticism for the lack of progress the club has made in that time.
This season Spurs have already crashed out of the Europa League against Dinamo Zagreb in the round of 16 stage, and in the Premier League are currently six points off the top-four
They lost 3-1 to Manchester United on Sunday to inflict a further blow on their Champions League hopes.
The north London club can end their 13-year trophy drought, though, as they face Man City in the Carabao Cup final later this month.
Mourinho has been widely blamed for Tottenham’s lack of progress, with claims the club has even gone backwards on his watch.
But former Crystal Palace owner Jordan believes the ‘serial winner’ has not been given all the tools to succeed in north London.
“This guy has won something at every single football club he’s been at,” the talkSPORT pundit told Jim White.
“He’s been at Spurs for 18 months and Spurs were the weakest team among the top six in the division in terms of depth of talent.
“Now, I’m not giving Mourinho a pass because some of the things he says and does are bloody stupid and he’s a bit Machiavellian in the way he twists and bends in the wind.
“[But] this Tottenham team cannot defend. They are not good enough, players like Serge Aurier are not good enough.
“Unless he’s going to be given proper support and proper tools, and I don’t think Tottenham are going to do that, then you are going to find Mourinho is going to put Tottenham sixth or fifth in the league at the very best.”
Tottenham are the only club Mourinho is yet to win a trophy with during his illustrious managerial career.
Starting at Porto in 2002, he has gone on to manage Chelsea (twice), Inter Milan, Real Madrid and Man United.
He has won eight league titles as well as two Champions Leagues and dozens of other cup competitions.
