Tony Cascarino believes a new era of Liverpool dominance is only just beginning after the club were crowned Premier League champions.
Three decades ago, Liverpool had dominated English football for the best part of 20 years, claiming 11 league titles during the seventies and eighties.
The barren spell which followed coincided with a period of total dominance for Manchester United under Sir Alex Ferguson, who won 38 trophies during his 26 years at Old Trafford.
Now, however, talkSPORT host Cascarino believes it is the Reds’ turn to dominate once again as Klopp builds a dynasty to match the great Liverpool sides of the past and Manchester United under Sir Alex.
“Liverpool have built a dynasty. They’re going to win more things, without a doubt,” he told the Weekend Sports Breakfast.
“I will be so shocked if they didn’t go on to be champions for the second or third time.
“I felt the same about Sir Alex Ferguson’s Manchester United. I played with some of their players and I realised it would be a while until anybody got them off their mantle.
“Liverpool had success from the late seventies all the way through to 1990.
“They won trophy after trophy, I played with Liverpool players who have won six titles!”
Liverpool legend Sir Kenny Dalglish has revealed that Sir Alex sent a message of congratulations after Liverpool’s Premier League title win.
The two Scots shared some epic battles down the years at their respective clubs, with the United legend successfully putting Liverpool’s dominance to a halt when he took charge at Old Trafford.
“He has contacted us to say congratulations by the modern medium,” Dalglish said.
“You go through the older generation, Fergie at Man United, Brian Kidd, Mike Summerbee, all the old foes who went through football at the same time and at the end of the year you sent a letter of congratulations.
“That continues. It is a great compliment. You are in competition and you are rivals but to have the intelligence so you are magnanimous enough to send in a letter saying congratulations.
“These days it has gone more technical, you get your texts or emails off the people who you have been competing with all your life.”
